Wonderful Italian painting from the first half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a fascinating biblical story, the beheading of the Babylonian leader Holofernes by the Jewish widow Judith, who wanted to save her people from foreign domination. The scene is witnessed by the old servant Abra and everything takes place in the dark while the light illuminates the protagonist of the composition and makes her jewels and the hilt of the sword shine. Painting of the Lombard school of notable pictorial quality, in particular the incredible realism of Judith's sumptuous clothes should be highlighted, with minute details in gold, inserts and white lace with refined transparencies. The hairstyle is then superlative, the blond curly hair is adorned with an elaborate headdress, decorated with splendid pearls and feathers. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Artwork overall in good state of conservation.
